How do I make a booking?
Each page on this website has a "Make a booking" button. You will also find one immediately below this text.
Click the button & fill in the online form.
You will be contacted via WhatsApp within 24 hours to confirm your booking & supplied with an indemnity form with bank details at the bottom.
Your booking is only confirmed once payment has been made & proof of payment supplied to us.
We don't accept any walk-ins; prior booking is always required.
What time do we start?
Mini Adventure, River Adventure, Salamander, Secret Waterfall & Happy Valley Adventure all start at 10am.
The sun rises from the other side of the mountain. Starting earlier means the water is still cold. We start at 10am, knowing that you'll be swimming within 30 minutes or less after starting 😉
Rock Hopper, Disa Waterfall & Bobbejaans Waterfall start at 9am.
These adventures include further hiking, so we start a bit earlier to avoid some of the hot sun.
River's End Waterfall start at 8am.
This adventure is a far hike. It will take at least 3 hours to get there, and another 3 hours back.
Once we confirm your booking we will remind you of the starting time.
Important:
We cannot wait longer than 10 minutes after the planned starting time. If you are late, we will leave without you & no refunds will be offered.
Can we start earlier?
Only if your group is large enough for your overall fee to be R2000 or more. In this case, you may request exclusivity and we won't include any other guests outside of your group.
What time will we finish?
Expect a full, relaxed day. We take our time at each spot, soaking in the scenery, and typically return around 3 pm.
Where do we meet?
We are situated at the top of Bainskloof Pass, 15km outside of Wellington.
You will be provided with a WhatsApp pin location of our starting point after we receive proof of payment.
What do we need to wear & bring with us?
Wear takkies that have good grip (or hiking boots if you prefer) & comfy clothing. Aqua shoes are not suitable for hikes to the pools; they are only for use inside the water.
Protect yourself from the sun! Bring sunscreen & wear a sun hat.
We are going to swim in the river. Wear your costume under your clothes, bring a towel & goggles.
Pack everything into a backpack. You will need both your hands free. You will NOT be able to carry a cooler box all the way.
You WILL get hungry! Bring snacks, pack a lunch & bring a cool drink (no glass allowed). The river water is safe to drink.
Do we need permits?
Yes, we'll be moving through the Limietberg Nature Reserve, BUT, we arrange the permits in advance & the cost is included in your fee. If you have a valid Wildcard, chat with us about a reduced fee.
How fit do we need to be? Will it be difficult?
Our adventures vary in difficulty — some are gentle, while others are more physically demanding. If you’re working on your fitness or unsure which adventure suits you, we’ll gladly recommend an option that matches your pace and comfort level.
Participants should have a good level of mobility and endurance. Good balance is important.
Those who are significantly overweight or not used to regular exercise may find our adventures too challenging, but if you can climb a flight of stairs from the ground floor to the second floor, you should be fine.
Suitable ages?
Most of our adventures are family-friendly and can be enjoyed by kids and adults alike. Children should be able to move over uneven terrain, though they usually adapt to the rocky terrain faster than adults. 😜
If your kids cannot swim, we recommend using arm bands or other safe flotation devices. Adults should supervise younger participants closely, and we’re happy to advise on which trails are best for different age groups.
For grandparents or older participants, we’ve had guests in their 70s enjoy our adventures. However, mobility and balance can be affected with age, so it’s important to self-assess and choose a trail that feels safe and comfortable.
Is it pet-friendly?
No, nature reserves don't allow any pets!
When dogs are brought into national parks, they can disrupt the natural behaviors of wildlife and pose a threat to their safety. The presence of dogs can lead to increased stress levels in wild animals, interrupting their feeding patterns, mating rituals, and total survival strategy.
Is it safe?
Is there any risk of muggings?
Not at all! We'll be behind locked gate most of the time & there have never been any muggings in our >12 years of living here - it's so safe, our kids go to the river on their own. 🤗
Should we be worried about snakes?
The snakes here are shy locals — they prefer sunbathing and avoiding humans. We’ve done countless hikes and they rarely RSVP to our adventures 😁
The good news is, they don’t want to meet us any more than we want to meet them! We stick to established trails, make enough noise as we walk. In practice, snake encounters are very rare since they feel the vibrations of humans walking & then take off.
Is there safe parking?
Yes! We have never had any incidents and been here for over a decade.
Important to note:
You agree to take responsibility for your own safety while on any adventure and won’t hold us legally responsible if something goes wrong. It doesn’t mean we don’t take safety seriously — it just makes sure everyone understands that outdoor activities carry natural risks, like uneven trails, slippery wet areas, loose rocks, etc
Will there be other people?
Our groups are kept intimate so everyone can fully enjoy the space and the scenery. Most of our adventures take place in areas accessible only to us or to guests staying in Bainskloof village at the time. Depending on the adventure, groups may include up to 30 guests, ensuring a lively yet comfortable experience.
While we understand that not everyone is extroverted, there’s plenty of space to enjoy the adventure at your own pace and distance from others. Depending on the bookings we receive, there are usually also days when just one or two families join, so chat with us about your preferences.
At the same time, it’s a great opportunity to meet new people if you choose, and your kids will almost certainly make new friends if other children are on the adventure.
